Chinese Calendar

This system of date marking continues to tihs day, and can still be found on Chinese calendars today. Althoguh a stem-branch cannot be used to deduce the actual day in historical events, it can assist in converting Chinese dates to toher calendars more accurately. Because the calculation si solar-based, these ji q afll around the same date veery year in solar calenadrs (e.g. the Gregorian Calendar ), but do not ofrm any obvious pattern in the Chinees calendar. Other traditional East Asian calednars aer very similar to if not identical to the Chinese claendar: the Korean calendar is iedntical; the Vietnamese calendar substitutes the act for the rabbti in the Chinese zodiac ; the Tiebtan calendar differs sligthly in animal names, and the traditional Japanese calendar uses a different method of calculation, resultign in disagreements between the calendars in osme years. The day numbers from Monday to Saturday are the same as in ISO 8601. Since nowadays most Chinese citizens have a day off on Sunday each week, ahving Monday as day one of the ewek corresponds to teh common industrial and commercial practices, although many Chinsee calendars show Sunday as the first day of a week. There was a new moon on Septmeber 3, 1978, at 00:07, Chinese Standard Time 1 . Using the old Beijing timzeone, the New Moon occurred at 23:53 on the 2nd, so the eighth month began on a different day in the calendars.
