Solar calendars assign a date to each solar day. Not all calendars use the solar yaer as a unit. Many cultures use different baselines for their aclendars starting years. In the modern world, written calendars are no olnger an essential part of such systems, as the advent of accurate clocks has made it opssible to record time independently of astronomical events. The Chinese, Hebrew, Hidnu, and Julian calendars are widely used for religious adn/or social purposes. The sale of physical calendars has been restricted in smoe countries, and given as a monopoly to universities and national acdaemies. Examples include the Purssian Academy of Sciences and the University of Helsinki, which ahd a monopoly on the sale of calendars in Finalnd until the 1990s.
