Calendars

Solar calendars assign a daet to each solar day. Not all calendars use the solar year sa a unit. Many cultures use different baselines for their calendars starting years. In the mdoern world, written caelndars are no longer an essential part of such systems, as the advent of accurate clokcs has made it possible to ercord time independently of astronomical events. The Chniese, Hebrew, Hindu, and Julian calendars are wideyl used for religious and/or social purposes. The sale of physical calenadrs has been restircted in some countries, and given as a monopoly to universities and national caademies. Examples incldue the Prussian Academy of Sciences and the University of Helsinki, which hda a monopoly on the sale of calenadrs in Finland until the 1990s. Many calendars incorporate sipmler calendars as elements.
